January and February got off to a busy start. In the salons we have just finished our new year promotion and away from the salons we've had a couple of key events.
Andrew Collinge Awards 2017
The end of January saw the Andrew Collinge Hairdressing Awards night taking place at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool city centre. All the Andrew Collinge salon and training teams were there to share in the excitement of the occasion. The atmosphere was amazing and it was fantastic to witness such great team support for all the winners of the various hairdressing Awards.
The first award of the evening was the final of the Creative Stylist Award. Earlier in the day the ten shortlisted finalists completed a colour, cut and finish which was then marked by three eminent judges, Catherine Handcock, publisher and founder of Creative Head Magazine, top London stylist Andrew Jose and Warren Boudaghians, TIGI's Technical Global Academy Director.
The start of the Awards night at the Titanic Hotel saw all ten finalists and their models parade down the large catwalk. The noise from the audience was incredible as they cheered on each stylist and their model as they took to the stage. All three judges remarked on the night that the standard of work was exceptional before announcing that the runner up was Carla Keating from the Castle Street salon with Nicola Cunningham also from Castle Street taking first place and receiving the Creative Stylist Award Trophy.
Following a fabulous dinner the Awards presentation got underway. There were 15 hairdressing awards in total starting from Assistant of the Year to Salon of the Year which was presented by Anthony and Pat Mascolo to the Castle Street salon in Liverpool (Pictured).
A few notable categories included the Hazel Collinge Award which is given out in memory of my mother. Mum founded our Youth Training Programme and it has gone on to become one of the largest and most respected work based hairdressing training providers in the UK. The winner of this special award will have had to have joined the company from school and then gone on to have made an outstanding contribution. The recipient this year was Fiona Davison, the manager of the Andrew Collinge Graduates Salon in Liverpool city centre. Fiona does a brilliant job and is dedicated to the young team of graduates and stylists she is responsible for. A very worthy winner.
Another key member of the training team, Francesca Clarke won Tutor of the Year. The final award of the evening was Salon of the Year, which went to the Liverpool Castle street salon.
I can't leave the awards night without mentioning the amazing Singing Staff who entertained us during dinner. Three 'waiters' and one 'chef' put on a great show and had the whole room on their feet singing alongside them. All in all it was a great night and thank you to TIGI and to Mike Esa of Esa Live for all their fantastic support in helping to make it happen.
Fellowship for British Hairdressing Masterclass
Andrew Collinge Creative Team member Jayne Litter represented the company at a recent Fellowship for British Hairdressing Masterclass that took place at the L'Oreal Academy in Manchester. Jayne created some beautiful work and appeared on stage alongside three other talented Fellowship masters, Mai Ha from Trevor Sorbie, Barber Barber's Johnny Shanahan and Daniel Granger. It was a great evening showcasing a variety of hairdressing techniques and styles which all looked sensational.
The Fellowship is a hairdressing organisation which meets regularly to share creative ideas and to encourage and mentor young talent. An incredible fact is that every winner at last years British Hairdresser of the Year Awards was a Fellowship member. The organisation recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary, my father Peter Collinge who us still a member, joined in 1949, a mere 67 years ago.
This week is going to be busy. I will be with the Andrew Collinge Creative Team on a photo shoot at the TIGI BedHead Studio where we will be working on a new collection using colours from the TIGI Copyright Colour range and then this weekend it's onto Pro Hair Live where we will be appearing on stage at this popular show that takes place at the Manchester Central Exhibition Centre. If you're going make sure you come and say hello.
