We asked Carla, who has been newly nominated for North Western Hairdresser of the Year 2018, to share with us her journey here at Andrew Collinge. This is what she’s said:
So my journey with Andrew Collinge very first began when I did my work experience at the age of 15 in the Ormskirk salon, I loved every minute of it and knew straight away that was the company I wanted to work for and train with, luckily enough I got offered a Saturday job and carried this on until the day I left school and then went on to start my 3 years of training with Andrew Collinge.
Once I had finished my training there was a job available in the Castle street salon, which hadn’t long been open at this point, I without any hesitation went for it and lucky enough I got the position.
Since that day I have never looked back, starting as a young stylist, then I later got a promotion to senior stylist, then another to Style Director, i then had a few months off to have my little boy and came back still loving my job to more recently being promoted to senior Style Director.
It is pretty hard to pick one in particular favourite part of my journey, but I love working on photo shoots, and doing shows, working on stage with Andrew is great and the things I have learnt from him.
Then earlier on this year I was lucky enough to win the Andrew Collinge creative stylist awards and my prize for this was to do my very own photo shoot at the TIGI Bead Head Studio, which was just amazing. We then decided to put my images into the North Western category of the British Hairdressing Awards, and have recently discovered that I was shortlisted for the finals, I still can’t believe how lucky I am and have loved every single minute of it all, keeping my fingers crossed for the finals now which is later on in November.
The things I am most proud of—to work for such a lovely company and team (I love working with all my work family), my clientele (I love my clients and wouldn’t be where I am today without them), winning an award at pretty much every level at the Andrew Collinge awards and entering the BHA’s this year has to be a massive proud moment for me!
Where can I see myself going? Well I love the mix of working in the salon and all the shoots and shows we do, I hope I can continue to keep going with all of this and I’m sure I have loads more exciting times ahead working at Andrew Collinge.
I would like to say a massive thank you to Andrew, Liz and Charlie for helping me to get to where I am today and for all the opportunities I have had over the years.
The best thing about being a hairdresser is meeting so many different characters each day and helping to make them feel great about themselves, every day is a different day being a hairdresser.
